Basic Battery Care

1. Installation & Removal
  a. Always insert batteries as per the instructions of the device
   - Positive (+) to Positive and Negative (-) to Negative
   - inserting incorrectly could cause damage to the batteries or device or cause an auto-fire scenario
  b. Carefully remove batteries using the pull-string (if attached) or as per the instructions of the device
   - NEVER yank or pry out batteries using a foreign object

2. Storage / Not in Use
  a. Always use a battery case, protect-ant sleeve, or fire retardant pouch 
  b. Remove batteries from your device when not in use
  c. If equipped, use your battery charger to "storage charge" batteries when not in use for extended periods of time
  d. Never allow batteries to be exposed to extreme heat or cold

3. Traveling
  a. Always use a battery case, protect-ant sleeve, or fire retardant pouch when traveling
  b. Remove batteries from your device when not in use
  c. Never transport or store loose batteries in your pocket, purse, etc..
  d. To avoid short circuits, keep batteries away from metal objects (e.g. coins, keys, jewelry, etc.)

4. Charging / Discharging
  a. Always charge in or on a fire-proof surface and never leave charging batteries unattended
  b. Only use a smart charger specifically designed for each battery type (some may accommodate several types)
  c. It is your responsibility to determine if your charger or charging device is functioning properly
  d. Immediately stop charging/discharging if the battery or charging device emits a smell, feels hot, or appears abnormal in any way
  e. NEVER allow your battery to over-charge or over-discharge
  f. ONLY charge and discharge batteries as recommended by the manufacturer

5. Maintenance
  a. Always charge batteries using a charger specifically designed for your battery (some may accommodate several types)
  b. Visually inspect your battery before, during, & after each use
   - check for puffy or swollen cells, ripped, torn, or frayed wrapping, and/or damage to terminals
  c. NEVER short circuit intentionally or unintentionally

6. Disposal
  a. Do not throw away in regular trash, consult your local government's rules for battery disposal
  b. Dispose of at an authorized battery disposal facility

7. When to replace
  a. When in doubt, replace
  b. Do not exceed the manufacturer's recommended charging cycle life

Additional Safety Tips

 1. Batteries may vent, explode, burn, or cause fire if misused, mishandled, or tampered with
 2. Only use with proper circuitry protection
 3. To avoid short circuits, keep batteries away from metal objects (e.g. coins, keys, jewelry, etc.)
 4. Do not modify, disassemble, puncture, cut, crush, drop, throw, or incinerate
 5. Do not expose to liquids or extremely high or low temperatures
 6. Keep away from children and/or pets
 7. Do not mix & match brands, models, old & new, used & unused
 8. If exposed to battery inner components, flush with water, and IMMEDIATELY contact a physician and/or emergency services
